History of the International Lions Club
The International Association of the Lions Club began as a dream of a Chicago Businessman named Melvin Jones. He believed that local business clubs should expand their horizon from purely professional concerns to the betterment of their Communities and the world at large.
After contacting similar groups around the United States, an Organization meeting was held in Chicago on June 7, 1927. Today, with more than 45,000 Clubs in 197 Countries with nearly 1.35 million men and women, the Lions have expanded their focus to help needs of our Global Communities.
The mission statement of the Lions Clubs is:
To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing VOLUNTARY services through involvement in local and international cooperation.
